I started my career in 1990 working for Goldfields Security on Harmony Gold Mine. While employed on Harmony I manufactured 70 portable alarm systems saving the mine thousands of rands. My responsibilites were to maintain all the alarm systems on the mine, responsible for all new installations and placing all the portable alarm systems in vacant houses.
Ensure the correct operation of the control room at all times. I then joined a company called ABC Security in 1996. In 1999 i joined Protea Security as an alarm technician on Harmony Gold Mine.
I was responsible for the following mines:
- Harmony Gold Mine
- President Brand Gold Mine
- President Steyn Gold Mine
- Unisel Gold Mine
- Saaiplaas Gold Mine
The contract was awarded to Cirtech Communications and I was transferred to Hartebeestfontein Gold Mine where I became responsible for the following mines alarm systems:
- Hartebeestfontein Gold Mine
- Buffelsfontein Gold Mine
- Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine

Control Room Features
- Are the radio operators fully familiar with the control room software.
- Are all signals received understood by the radio operators.
- Are there detailed directions to sites so that the operators can assist with directions to the different sites.
- Are the different keyholders telephone numbers available to the control room operators.
- Is there a standby technician available to repair faulty alarm systems
- Is there a standby generator available that can be utilised in the event of a power failure
- Is all necessary equipment eg computers base stations and telephone systems connected to a ups to prevent power surges from damaging the equipment.
- Are there duplicate computer systems and base stations on hand that can be installed immediately should a breakdown occure.this will insure that continued monitoring can take place.
- Is there a panic system installed at the control room that registers on the cell phones of the senior security officers.it must be noted that the control room is the heart of the security department.
- What measures are in place to ensure that all alarm systems are armed after hours.
- What measures are in place to ensure that all alarm systems are tested on a regular basis.
- Are detailed occurrence book entries made in the event of an alarm activating.
- Are all emergency signals from smelt houses,paymasters etc directed to all senior security staff cell phones.this will assist to the reaction of all high risk alarms.
- Are manual files kept on all alarm systems containing all relevant information
