  • The title "Major Dad" was given to Paul O' Sullivan, the current Managing Director of Randburg Waterfront, following a 12 minute feature by the M-Net current affairs programme "Carte Blanche" in March 1998.
  • The theme "Major Dad" has now been taken up by the Management of Randburg Waterfront who work together with the Police, Center Security and a group of volunteers known as "Lifeboat".
  • "Lifeboat" is a Christian group of volunteers, which include mums and dads, school teachers and professional counsellors.
  • "Lifeboat" is inter denominational and has, as its Chairperson, Tony Hayman who, assisted by his wife Daniella, organise the volunteers into working groups to assist in carrying out patrols aimed at ensuring the welfare of children.
  • In order to ensure children under 18 years are not subject to alcohol abuse they are not permitted to be seated outside any premises after 20h00 where liquor is being sold, unless with mum or dad or a legal guardian or partaking of a meal. Further protection follows from the midnight curfew, which means no children under 18 may be on the property after midnight unless with mum or dad or a legal guardian or unless they are on the way home from a movie.
  • The Sea Cadet Corps of South Africa is a voluntary youth training organisation catering for the young people of South Africa, from the age of 12 to 20 years. It utilises the traditions of the sea and naval discipline to enhance their maritime knowledge, which has, on a number of occasions led to a naval career. Major Dad is proud to have the Gauteng branch of the Sea Cadet Corps based at Randburg Waterfront and is grateful for the sponsorship given by the owners of the Randburg Waterfront and by Fred Steinberg's Boating Center. Any aspiring Sea Cadets should contact the Gauteng Officer Lt. Commander Terrence Mardgdhum at: (011) 474-1300 or (011) 609-4591.
  • "The Anchor" is a name given to another Major Dad project. It is a multi denominational Christian Coffee Shop, set up with the assistance of Randburg Waterfront and Tony Hayman of "Lifeboat". As no liquor is sold, it is an ideal place for Christian youth to meet & socialise.

The back area of the Coffee Shop is the office for "Lifeboat". Sharing Christian values, networking and Gospel singing are regular activities here.
