Tate's Theatre Cafe
Line up 2000
Showoff
20 July - 14 August 1999
Talented De Wet Wraight in a slick, imaginative and highly entertaining solo supper show.
The show's highlights include the operatic Barcelona and a crowd pleasing medley in which
Private dancer with De Wet as a fringed and frantic Tina Turner gives way to Believe with
De Wet trading wigs and throwing on barely there gear to become Cher. Also worth a special
mention is a sequence in which De Wet's Mimi Coertse is sunk, with the drop of a willowy
blue skirt, to emerge as an icy Celine Dion.
Sister Century & the
millenium madhouse
24 August - 2 October
Spencer Sykes is Sister Century with nurses
aids.Fem Belling and Helen Debois in many guises. This show is aimed to entertain you with
the absurdities of the countdown into a new millenium. The feel is comedy, sing-along
musical favourites throughout the ages with a touch of Vaudeville. Special appearances of
visiting ventriloquists, hypnotists, drag artists, belly dancers, add variety. The troupe
of actors endeavour to make each show different by serenading the couple that came to
celebrate their divorce, birthday or promotion. If there is nothing to celebrate we will
find something to. Watch out as Tate's makes a complete about turn to the wacky, weird and
wonderful. The theme is madhouse. Anything goes. Patrons are encouraged to dress up and
don't be suprised if your waiter reminds you of olds senile aunty Dawn. She might just be.
For the complete millenium thrill. There's only one place to be. At the madhouse of
course.
Cut Glass
5 - 17 October
These girls need no introduction as they
have been wowing audiences the past 10 years with their witty acapella performances.
Tate's is particularly proud to host these ladies on it's stage. As they do more one off
appearances and corporates they felt the need to get back to their fans accumulated the
past decade. Eight shows only so be sure to book at your nearest Computicket or at Tate's.
Ammorissimo
19 - 24 October
Charl van Heyningen brings the classics to
Tate's his operatic training
comes in handy when he chooses love themes from classical operas as
the springboard for looking at all the musical versions of love declarations throughout
time. He is witty and funny and has a beautiful voice. For and evening of pure relaxation
and enjoyment of singing in it's purest form, be sure not to miss this one.
