Fax Terms

Automatic telephone / fax switching

Automatically identifies incoming telephone calls and faxes and switches to the appropriate mode. Fax reception is automatic, and the unit keeps ringing for phone calls. If no one is available, the telephone answering device activates to catch voice messages.

Document feeder

Instead of loading originals one by one at the machine, place the pages of the original document in the Automatic Document Feeder. It feeds documents into the facsimile while you’re busy back at your desk.

128 locations broadcasting

128 locations can be preset for fax broadcasting.

Delayed transmission

The fax machine can be programmed to transmit a document at a particular time to take advantage of favourable rates to help cut down costs.

Substitute reception

If you run out of paper or ink while receiving a document, the fax’s memory stores the incoming message. In the event of a power failure, a back-up battery makes sure that the incoming document remains memorised.

Sequential broadcasting

When sending the same fax to a number of destinations, instead of taking the time to send them one by one, sequential broadcasting sends the same document to a number of different locations automatically.

Dual Access

The time-saving full dual access function lets you scan documents into memory for transmission even as faxes are being sent from or received into memory, or printed out on paper. And copies and PC data can be printed out without hindering the reception of faxes into memory.

Batch transmission mode

This mode lets you group and send documents in memory to specified destinations in a single, economical transmission.

Fine Micro-Toning System with Auto-Smoothing Function

Through Minolta’s unique compact developing system, faxes contain surprisingly distinct characters and consistent imaging.

The auto-smoothing function converts normally jagged edges into rounded curves and straight lines for comfortable legibility.

Easy operation

Consumable parts, such as toner and the drum, are stored in one easy-to-change cartridge. A clean, simple way to maintain the highest and smoothest operation. Loading paper, setting original documents, operating the control panel and changing cartridge in the front of the machine.

Relay Broadcasting

This allows you to send incoming documents to other locations and command other facsimiles to forward transmitted documents on to additional destinations.

Bulletin Board Function

This function turns the Minoltafax 1800 into a fax-on-demand service, so anyone can access a document stored in memory by entering its ID number to have it sent to their facsimile.

PC Interface and "LaserFAX Lite"

The built-in Bi-directional parallel interface lets you connect the Minoltafax to a PC for accelerated performance. With the included "LaserFAX Lite" installed in you PC, use the Minoltafax to send and receive faxes directly with a PC, print out data and scan graphics and text into a PC. You can also configure settings like page headers with a PC using the Local Set-Up. Compatibility with LaserFAX 3.5 programme offers added capabilities, such as Binary File Transfer, Subaddressing, Passwords, Selective Polling and many others. "LaserFAX" is sold under the name "HydraFAX" in north America.

Fine-ART smoothing

Fine-ART Smoothing eliminates jagged edges to produce smooth contours for clearly legible fax reception.

Multifunctional

Term used to describe any system that can perform more than one function  i.e. utilise a scanner, printer, copying and modem within a fax machine .
