michel-talk.jpg (16573 bytes)Born in Villefranche sur Saone in France, Michel Morand grew up surrounded by vineyard and with catering in his blood. He graduated from hotel school in Thonon les Bains and his career has been spent working in hotels and restaurants around the world.

Since joining well-known restaurateur Ken Forrester at Gatrile’s, Michel has successfully integrated into the restaurant his philosophy of good food and good wine complementing each other. He rounds off this combination with personalised service, which has brought diners, back to Gatrile’s again and again.

Rustenberg and Brampton

New Release

 

Winemaker Rod Easthope and farm owner Simon Barlow are currently releasing a few wonderful additions to their well known stable;

The Rustenberg Peter Barlow 96 Blend which promises to be a pinnacle release of the Rustenberg reds and a homage to Simons father. A make up of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot aged in Château Sylvain small oak barrels.

Rustenberg Blend 96 made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance of equal parts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. (Release late ’98)

Brampton QF1 Noble dessert wine with complex fruit and very well balanced acid. QF 1 meaning "Quick Fix" which according to Simon, is a small gulp that he has in his cellar before lunch or dinner.

Brampton Chardonnay 1997 - unwooded fruity Chardonnay giving the full character of the vines.

Brampton Sauvignon Blanc 1997 – Floral and very fruity chilled as an apéritif Says Winemaker Rod - "Granadilla and figs with a touch of nettle contribute to the aroma, and combined with gooseberry, typify the palate, giving startling length for this variety. A cracker!"
We recently had the honour of tasting some of these great wines at our annual Rustenberg Gourmet Wine Evening that was held at Gatrile’s on 14th September and hosted by Rod and Simon.
